Dr. Michael Desvigne, the supervising physician of CoolBody Contours in Phoenix, answers your questions about the safe, effective, FDA-cleared CoolSculpting® procedure.
Am I a good candidate for CoolSculpting treatments?
The CoolSculpting fat reduction procedure is designed for those who have unwanted fat that resists diet and exercise. It is not a weight loss solution for people who are obese. It is, however, a nonsurgical alternative to liposuction. Good candidates have noticeable bulges in certain areas they’d like to get rid of. CoolBody Contours practitioners are trained to qualify candidates for CoolSculpting treatments in a free initial consultation and will not recommend or perform the procedure if it will not achieve the desired transformation. When this happens, I can provide a surgical consultation if desired.
How much does the CoolSculpting procedure cost?
The price for CoolSculpting treatments varies depending on your areas of concern, the number of sessions needed and the customized treatment plan tailored just for you by the certified CoolSculpting practitioners at CoolBody Contours. CoolBody Contours offers competitive pricing in the Phoenix market, where we are one of a select few providers to offer the DualSculpting method using two machines at once to reduce treatment time by half as well as same-day, back-to-back treatment sessions called “stacking” to speed up fat-cell death and results. Pricing is determined as part of your initial consultation.
How long is each CoolSculpting session?
Sessions usually last about an hour each; however, session length may vary depending on the number of areas being treated during a single visit.
How many CoolSculpting sessions will I need?
More than one session may be necessary to meet your goals. As a time- and cost-saving option for those requiring additional sessions, we offer the DualSculpting procedure (running two machines at once for faster results) and stacking (one procedure followed by another on the same area on the same day).
Where does the frozen fat go?
Once the treated fat cells are crystallized (frozen), they die and are naturally processed and eliminated from the body. Once the treated fat cells are gone, they’re gone for good.
What does it feel like?
Because vacuum pressure is used to draw fat into the cooling device, you may experience a pressure and intense cold, which dissipate after a few minutes. Some people experience discomfort, numbness or pinching, but it tends to be mild, allowing them to read, watch videos, work on their laptop or even nap during their treatment.
Is the CoolSculpting procedure safe?
The CoolSculpting procedure is FDA-cleared for the flanks (love handles), abdomen and thighs. With over 1 million CoolSculpting procedures performed to date worldwide, it is proven to be a safe and effective treatment for nonsurgical fat reduction. CoolBody Contours is especially serious about safety. Although CoolSculpting clinics need not have a supervising physician, CoolBody Contours is affiliated with a board-certified plastic surgeon and staffed by healthcare professionals, so strict medical safety and ethical standards apply.
What are the side effects of CoolSculpting treatments?
Following the procedure, typical side effects include temporary numbness, redness, swelling, bruising, firmness, tingling, stinging or pain. Rare side effects also may occur. We will discuss these with you during your consultation.
Can I return to normal activities after my treatment?
Yes. The CoolSculpting procedure is completely nonsurgical, so typically you can return to normal activities immediately. Typical side effects are temporary and generally minor.
When will I see results?
You may start to see changes as quickly as three weeks after your treatment, and will experience the most dramatic results after two months. Your body will continue to flush out dead fat cells for up to four to six months after treatment.
